Worship Through Message

Pastor Dan – “Start Again”

Sermon notes 1/07/18 (Scripture refs from the NIV unless otherwise noted)

“Start Again” – (Acts 9:1-9)

Introduction:
Has your resolve already dissolved?

Old bad habits die hard…we can get stuck in our failures & shame

I believe you can have victory is your resolutions (Lk 1:37 NLT)

The Passage: Acts 9:1-9
What is a Damascus Road Experience?

Who is Saul? (Acts 7:57-58, 8:1 & 3)

Misguided ambition & vision (Acts 9:1, Mt 5:17)

The Damascus Road Experience (Acts 9:3-6)

Saul became Paul

What It Means to Start Again

1 – It means stopping some behavior

Starting again means a change in heart and behavior

It was a 180, from all consuming hatred to all consuming love

An obvious, drastic transformation, NOT undercover (2 Cor 5:17)

Some things we must stop doing are scripturally clear (1 Cor 6:9-10)

Those who commit these sins are not beyond the love of God

(1 Cor 6:11)

2 – It means starting some new behavior

From persecuting to preaching

The story of Paul Festus (Acts 26:15-16, 19)

A change of ownership (Ro 6:17-18; 1 Jn 3:7-8)

What you should start doing

3 – Do not try to do it alone

The church found Paul (Acts 9:13-14, 17)

Paul was blessed to have someone to come alongside him

(Eccl 4:9-12)

Walking the Christian life outside the body of Christ is a tough go

Groups, family, fellowship, brothers, sisters, accountability,

guidance, help

4 – It will cost something

It’s never ALL smooth sledding (Acts 9:15-16)

There is always a cost of some kind (Php 4:12)

It might be your reputation or position (Acts 26:24)

So where are you today?

Have you resolved to be a different person next year at this time?

If you fail or hit a bump, don’t get stuck, start again & walk with God.
